St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work.

As one of the busiest Planning Authorities in the country, and with a new draft Strategic Plan identifying major development in the Green Belt and a recently announced Enterprise Zone, it’s an exciting time to join us!

As our planning team continues to flourish, we are keen to strengthen our team with the addition of experienced Chartered Planners. You will join our team and contribute to the delivery of professional advice, expertise and evaluation on all aspects of the development management work to customers, to meet statutory and service requirements.

You will lead on the consideration and negotiation of complex planning applications to facilitate the implementation of the Local Plan, and provide professional expertise at Committees, Planning Appeals and Enforcement cases as needed.

With considerable experience in the field and Chartered membership of the RTPI, you will work on a range of planning cases involving Conservation Areas, Listed Building and large developments. Excellent negotiation skills and a flexible approach to work are essential.

We offer a competitive package which includes up to 26 days annual leave, pension scheme, RTPI professional fees reimbursement, development and training opportunities, staff parking permit, flexible working options (including homeworking), leisure and travel discounts and a number of other benefits.
