This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant Masterplanning, Design and Conservation Team working on major strategic allocations and key Council projects.

If you are a team player looking to accelerate your career within a highly supportive and friendly working environment with other specialists in Planning, Urban Design, Conservation and Ecology, this could be the role for you.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable planner to help our team of professionals to bring forward several major areas of growth across the Borough.

Swindon is a vibrant and dynamic town with big plans for growth.  We are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are investing in our Planning Teams to ensure we can continue to plan positively for growth, deliver high quality design and maintain a competitive and productive economy.  We have also been shortlisted for a number of national awards including the RTPI Excellence in Planning to Deliver Housing category related to the major town expansion at Tadpole Garden Village as collaborative working matters to us too.

We are looking to appoint a qualified (eligibility or membership of the RTPI), experienced, skilled and highly motivated individual to help us deliver our ambitious growth agenda. This role provides a great opportunity for a dynamic individual with a ‘can do’ attitude to be part of a strong, dynamic team, working collaboratively on exciting projects and developments with colleagues across the Council, partner organisations and developers.  We are custodians of our major developments from policy allocation and master planning through to detailed delivery.  As such the work is fulfilling and rewarding and the successful candidate will take a prominent role in managing this growth through applications and design codes and project management of conditions and s106 agreements.

Development Management experience is essential and familiarity of major developments is desirable. An ability to travel throughout the Borough to undertake site visits is essential and candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

We feel a work life balance is important for our team members.  As such Swindon operates flexible working and you will have the opportunity to work from home. The working hours and pattern for this role are also negotiable.
