As Principal Planning Officer you will carry out a key function in helping to manage the team and ensure the Council's planning policy objectives are met. You will be responsible for the processing of planning policy and Development Plan documents, particularly those of a more complex nature whilst also having managerial responsibilities including conducting One to One Development Reviews and appraisals. You will serve to co-ordinate the development of policy for the built and natural environment, and to undertake the role of "intelligent client" in the commissioning and procurement of supporting technical studies.

Ultimately you will be the key person within the team for producing Corporate Reports and dealing with correspondence including enquiries from Councillors, stakeholders and the general public. As required you will undertake consultations and deliver presentations and provide support at public exhibitions in respect of the Growth and Strategy Team's area of work.

To apply for this role you must have worked in a local authority planning policy team and gained relevant technical experience in relation to Local Plan formulation. You will need a good knowledge of UK planning legislation and the context of developing planning policy within the framework of a Local Authority's wider corporate objectives. At this level a relevant degree level qualification is essential and you must have a proven background in managing projects and people.

The role is based in Essex will last at least 6 months and will pay £40-£45/hr.
