A Local Authority in Essex requires a Planning Enforcement Officer to assist the Council, primarily dealing with a backlog of applications. 

You will be working in a rural area of picturesque countryside, for an initial three month contract, which is likely to extend past this.

You will be taking over an existing case load of retrospective applications while also tackling new cases that arise. This will involve you carrying out site visits and surveying site developments whilst recording any evidence of breaches of planning control. This will involve interviewing members of the public, owners and occupiers of the land plus applying your own investigative skills. You will be writing Enforcement reports and no further action reports whilst acting under the supervision of the Principal Planner (Enforcement). 

The pay for this role is negotiable and dependent upon your level experience and expertise. 

An up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation and the ability to interpret policies of the law is essential; ideally they are looking for you to have at least two years experience of dealing with Planning Enforcement cases. It is preferable, but not essential that you hold a relevant degree qualification. If you have previous experience in Development Management, but would be interested in making a move into Enforcement this could also be a good fit for you.

In order to carry out site visits you should also hold a full driving license and have a car. The Council can also offer flexible working arrangements such as home working and a compressed week.
