Mid Devon is a beautiful area with a high quality natural environment lying in the heart of Devon, equidistant between the Somerset and Devon coasts. As one of the largest districts in the country, yet with a population of only just over 80,000, Mid Devon provides an exciting opportunity to balance the needs of rural service provisioning with the challenges of spatial and economic growth delivery.
Our recent peer challenge review showed that we are ‘radically-improved and in a strong position to address future challenges’, but we’re not resting on any laurels and are determined to drive forward our collective ambition and aspiration for the future of the district. Our submitted Local Plan is to be examined shortly and includes a substantial opportunity site at junction 27 of the M5 motorway which provides scope for a transformational development enhancing our leisure and tourism industries. We were one of 14 areas in the country to secure national ‘garden village’ status earlier this year for our planned expansion east of Cullompton. If that wasn’t enough, we are also producing a joint strategic plan with our three neighbouring councils in the ‘Greater Exeter’ area and are seeing new opportunities for planning and economic collaboration across this substantial housing and economic area.
As a result of the recent merging of the council’s planning and economic regeneration functions, we have a number of opportunities available if you feel your talent, ambition and enthusiasm can add to our team in driving forward this exciting agenda:
Planning Student – Post Number: PD11
Salary - £18,070 – £20,138
