Principal Planning Officer (Policy)
Spelthorne are offering an exciting and challenging opportunity to join our expanding Planning Policy team. We have begun a review of the Local Plan and this is a chance for you to become involved at an early stage.
Spelthorne lies in north-west Surrey with borders to the Thames Valley and south west London. Heathrow Airport lies just north of the Borough and the river Thames to the south and over 65% of the Borough designated as green belt and are large areas at flood risk. With Heathrow announced as the government’s preferred location for airport expansion and two major rail proposals in the Borough, we will need to manage these opportunities and balance our strong economic position and consequent development pressures.
The post will involve a diverse range of work including Local Plan preparation and leading on specific topic studies, policy formulation, as well as representing the Council at external meetings. As a Principal Planning Officer you will be expected to hit the ground running with the ability to make a significant contribution to the management of the Local Plan review and other planning policy work.
The successful candidate will need to have a flexible approach to work and have excellent problem solving and communication skills with a good knowledge of the Local Plan system and relevant legislation and good people management skills.
The post would be suitable for an experienced policy officer who is looking to take the next step in their planning career.
