We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled planning advocate who will be a passionate and effective champion for the change nature needs in Wales.

Wales is in the process of rolling out distinctive new legislation on sustainable development, planning and natural resources. RSPB Cymru is seeking a Senior Policy Officer - Planning, to help us maximise the benefits to biodiversity from these new legal frameworks. In particular, you will lead our input to the development of Area Statements (the new approach, introduced through the Environment (Wales) Act 2016, for the sustainable management of natural resources), the National Development Framework (coming forward under Wales’ reformed land use planning system), and the Wales National Marine Plan.

To be the ideal candidate, you will be have knowledge of planning or environmental regulation/management systems and hold (or be working towards) chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or equivalent professional experience. You will have an understanding of planning and environmental management policy – in particular, knowledge of Wales’ legal and policy framework is desirable. You will care about wildlife and above all, have an understanding of the potential risks and opportunities arising through these key legal and policy frameworks. You will seek out and use opportunities to advocate better options for nature to decision-makers and the public.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Policy Officer, but we reserve the right to appoint at a less senior level depending on candidates’ skills, qualifications and experience (the relevant role profile can be supplied on request).
