Area Planning and Enforcement Officer
Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils are committed to improving the quality of life for everyone living in, working in and visiting east Suffolk. Already a progressive and successful partnership, we are in the process of combining our two authorities to create the largest district council in the country, delivering vital services to those who need them most.
Our councils are an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives.
Based in our Lowestoft offices, you will have your own caseload, present cases to committees and carry out planning and / or enforcement visits, site surveys and inspections. Your responsibilities will primarily focus upon parts of the Waveney district and may on occasion involve the Suffolk Coastal district.
You will be able to demonstrate good interpersonal and written communication skills, and show a particular flair for negotiation and influencing. You will also be experienced in handling planning applications and appeals.
Our districts boast a fantastic coastline and numerous market towns and villages, all within a sensitive cultural and environmental landscape that has some significant growth and regeneration challenges. This role will provide a great opportunity to develop a career in a forward looking partnership with key major projects, including the regeneration of Lowestoft and associated renewable energy opportunities, Sizewell new nuclear build, BT Adastral Park, and the Port of Felixstowe.
In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development. As part of a large team, there will be continued support for your professional development. We want you to stay with us for the long term, so we will give you all the support we can to build a great career with our organisation.
There is also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose built brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme and free car parking. Benefits also include essential car user allowance, professional fees, and (where appropriate) relocation allowances.
