With an annual spend of £130 million per year and a large number of exciting projects in the pipeline, Southend Borough Council are looking for a Team Leader to manage a borough wide Development Control Team. Key responsibilities

  • Provide pre-application advice and guidance to internal and external customers
  • To manage a borough wide planning team
  • Determining applications under delegated powers
  • Manage the processing of planning related applications
  • Responsible for the borough’s planning enforcement, appeals and CIL functions
  • Manage the customer interface of the borough wide team
  • Attending Development Control Committee meetings

Person Specification

  • An in-depth knowledge of planning polices and legislation
  • Experience of managing and developing staff required
  • Good understanding of development viability issues
  • Experience of dealing with major and complex planning applications
  • Ability to organise and manage own workload to dead-lines
  • Planning qualification required and membership of RTPI preferred
  • Full driving licence required
