Highways Development Control Officer

Building and Construction - Wiltshire

My client, a local authority based in Wiltshire are looking for a Highways Development Control Officer to work on the major projects team within their service in the Building and Construction industry. The suitable candidate for the role will be required to co-ordinate the transport requirements of major developments through engagement in the Local Development Framework (LDF) and land use planning processes.

The Highways Development Control Officer vacancy will be for an initial 3-6 months with potential for extension subject to internal circumstance and your performance.

Duties for the Highways Development Control Officer role will be:

  • Assess the transport implications of major development proposals and the impacts on existing transport infrastructure, (and identify applications requiring referral to senior management and/or Members) in order that opportunities to protect or improve the Council's position are maximised.
  • In the context of complex infrastructure and/or planning projects - responsibility for managing and moderating (often conflicting) input from other teams/services
  • Engage with planning colleagues on LDF development issues and identify and advise on transport implications associated with proposed site allocations, and take responsibility for the formulation of detailed scheduling of planning obligations required at planning consent stage.
  • Through critical analysis of transport assessments, identify local infrastructure improvements that can be secured through direct works by the developer or by way of financial contribution
  • Negotiating transport infrastructure to meet demands of growth and business (funding and/or direct provision)

Membership of RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) would be advantageous.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent in town/urban planning (or relevant aspect).
  • 1-2 years' experience working in the UK Building and Construction industry.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
