Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks forms part of the FTSE-50 energy company, SSE. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and Central Southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Town Planner to join our teams, based in either Perth or Inverness, helping to shape the Transmission business consenting strategy. You’ll provide expertise to support project teams delivering our key planning, s37, and marine consents as part of our programme of Large Capital Projects across Base Capex, Customer Connections and Strategic Wider Works portfolios. You’ll act as technical expert on Spatial Planning matters and will support our Transmission business in promoting projects for inclusion in the National Planning Framework for Scotland. These project include Strategic and Local Development Plans, aimed at building consensus around electricity transmission system planning at a policy level. In addition, you’ll represent the company at Public Local Enquiries and Public Hearings and work with the Queens Counsel to prepare Statements of Case for Planning Appeals.

Educated to degree level and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, you should have an understanding and working knowledge of energy networks, their structure, governance and funding and of the system of Spatial Planning in Scotland. With a working knowledge of systems of Large Capital Project Governance, you’ll also have an appreciation of how the regulated and non-regulated context influences the required content of statutory consents.

You’ll be a positive communicator with the ability to articulate complex spatial planning issues to others, with both a customer and project delivery focused attitude. You’ll liaise with various stakeholders both internal and externally, and so you should have a knack for building and nourishing positive working relationships, and be experienced in mediating disputes.

For us it's not just about being good at what you do - it's about enjoying what you do, too. So we'll encourage and empower you to be imaginative, share your great ideas, and do work that you can be proud of. In return, you'll enjoy a variety of benefits and development opportunities. On top of a competitive salary, you'll enjoy generous holiday entitlement, a Group Pension Plan, share options and discounts on energy bills, phone and broadband.
