Senior Planning Officer (Development Management) – £30,163 to £32,442 inclusive of London weighting. Plus Market Factor Supplement of £3,500 (reviewed annually), essential car user allowance and Local Government Pension Scheme.

Three Rivers District Council, situated in south west Hertfordshire, is a high achieving organisation at the leading edge of public services. The Development Management Service continually achieves outstanding performance. 

On the fringe of London, the District is experiencing significant development pressure, with a variety of planning applications. The District is a mixture of beautiful countryside, villages and small towns with many Conservation Areas, Listed Buildings and major areas of Green Belt and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The area has a diverse range of businesses and is a centre for the film industry with Warner Brothers at Leavesden forming part of a studio cluster along with nearby Elstree and Pinewood.

We are looking to appoint at Senior Planning Officer level. Successful candidates will have a proven track record in Development Management/Planning Enforcement or other relevant experience.  The roles offer an ideal opportunity to take your career to the next stage with a forward-looking authority that has an excellent track record of improvements and commitment to learning.  We have a diverse and exciting workload and are a friendly and dedicated team.

You should be MRTPI accredited or working towards achieving chartered status and have experience of dealing with planning applications and appeals at varying levels of complexity and experience.  Experience presenting cases at Planning Committee meetings and dealing with appeals whether by way of Written Representations or Informal Hearings is desirable.  You will need to be well organised and possess the ability to work to tight deadlines.  Strong verbal, written and presentation skills are essential as you will be liaising and negotiating with the public, external agents and organisations, Council Members and other Council departments.  You should also be able to demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the functions of Local Government organisations, including the different roles of Officers and Members.
