Basildon Council attaches great importance to the protection and enhancement of its natural and built environments. It is particularly protective of its Green Belt and constantly seeks to robustly enforce planning controls throughout the borough to ensure public confidence is maintained in the planning regime.

The post holder will be based within the Council's Planning Enforcement Team and will be required to carry out a range of planning enforcement duties that contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of the enforcement of planning controls that strives to conserve, maintain and enhance the natural and built environment of the Borough.

The successful candidate will undertake the investigation of alleged breaches of planning control, and the monitoring of developments to ensure that compliance with planning conditions and approved plans is achieved. Where breaches occur the post holder will communicate with transgressors and complainants to resolve the issue. If formal enforcement action is required, the post holder will be directly involved in the issuing of notices and other legal proceedings that may follow from such action.

The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to negotiate effectively in difficult situations. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of enforcement investigatory and research work to develop their skills in a challenging environment.
