These are exciting times for Ealing, which is increasingly being seen as an attractive site for developers is set to provide a number of career progression opportunities.

Your new role

One of the main purposes of the role is to provide leadership and direction to planning officers to ensure the delivery of the Council’s objectives, as defined in agreed Service Plans, in accordance with all Council standards and procedures. You will also deliver a service that has a significant impact to the client community ensuring close co-ordination with related services, in support of a customer-centric organisation. You will analyse, interpret, consider options and make recommendations on applications submitted under planning and associated legislation, in accordance with statutory requirements, the Council’s policies and procedures, and good practice. You will provide advice on pre-application proposals, promoting the development team approach, and to contribute to the investigation of the development potential of land. You will process a wide range of planning applications (basic to strategic) covering a variety of complex planning issues, to include consideration of heritage, urban design, sustainability and other related matters, whilst balancing conflicting interests, and participating in community development and regeneration projects where required.

What you'll need to succeed

Ideally you will have a degree in in Town Planning or a RTPI equivalent subject, with a proven track record of handling a range of development management applications. You will draw on your knowledge of Town and Country planning and the associated local and national legislation and policy, including Ealing’s statutory obligations towards public consultation. As well as an excellent command of planning policy, you will be IT proficient and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

What you'll get in return

You will earn a competitive salary with additional benefits that include generous holiday allowance, flexible working and access to the Local Government pension scheme as well as access to tax efficient childcare vouchers, a cycle to work scheme and an interest free season ticket loan. You will be working as part of a large yet dynamic team, for an organisation that always seeks to promote from within and invest in staff through its extensive internal training programmes and the opportunity to gain further qualifications on the job.
