Our client, based in North West London, requires a Principal Planning Officer within their Development Management team. You will take a lead role within the team managing major and complex planning applications and dealing with contentious development control issues, including undertaking negotiations with applicants/prospective developers and representatives of other Council departments. You will also have supervisory responsibility for specified planning officers in one of the application teams.
As a more senior member of the team you will be expected to represent the Council by preparing and presenting expert and professional evidence at public inquiries, informal hearings and in court and you will regularly be required to provide professional advice to Council members, senior officers, applicants and the public on planning applications, development proposals and related matters.
To carry out this role you will need to be a degree qualified town planner with experience working within a local authority development management team. Ideally at this level our client would like to see professional accreditation but consideration will be given to those with commensurate experience. Ideally you will have London experience and a comprehensive understanding of the current issues and developments affecting planning, regeneration and local government in London
Initially this will be a 3 month contract but it is likely to be extended and the rate our client is looking to pay will be £35 - £40/hr depending on experience. A full job spec is available.
