Westminster is at the very heart of London and a crucial part of the World City. It contains instantly recognisable landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Westminster, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus as well as the capital’s internationally renowned shopping thoroughfares of Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets.

Our area comprises a rich mix of vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods including Chinatown, Soho, Mayfair, Covent Garden, St John’s Wood and Knightsbridge. When you add the exciting regeneration projects in the equally diverse and challenging areas around Edgware Road, Harrow Road, Queens Park Estate and Paddington, you will realise why Westminster is one of the most challenging and interesting places to work as a planner. With 11,000 listed buildings, 56 conservation areas and constant pressures for commercial and residential development, you can see why a job with us is unique.

Our job at Westminster City Council is to deliver an unrivalled city of choice and aspiration – A City for All – where all can benefit from our city’s continued success.

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care about how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are central to how we work. You’ll build the working relationships and credibility to embed our values at the heart of everything we do.

You will be working as part of a small project group and the job is therefore an ideal opportunity for an aspiring town planner or recent planning graduate to establish a professional career by gaining enforcement experience in the largest specialist planning enforcement team in the UK. The work involves surveys, site visits / interviews and undertaking detailed research and reports/correspondence under the supervision of senior planners. It forms part of an initiative which focuses particularly upon short-term holiday letting of residential premises, but includes a variety of other planning and enforcement issues.

You will need a degree or diploma in Town Planning, be well-organised and have the ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to develop your career as a planner. Tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide range of people will be required and a strong commitment to customer care.

We want applications from people who have the passion, determination and ambition to make a difference within Westminster to deliver the very best for our residents, businesses and communities.

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of iconic Westminster, a true ‘City for All’. This is a unique place where it all happens.  And where it could all happen for you.
