Principal Planner – Planning Policy & Special Projects
Salary Range: £43,386 - £47,725 per annum
Attractive benefits package including a retention bonus.
ARE YOU AN EXPERIENCED POLICY PLANNER WITH A KEEN INTEREST IN MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS?
Then we have a challenging and rewarding role and you could be exactly the person we are looking for.
Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils have a joint Planning Service with an opportunity to become our lead officer on the planned expansion of Heathrow Airport and other major infrastructure projects including inputs to HS2 and Crossrail, Western Rail Link to Heathrow, motorway improvements and the planning and assisted delivery of two relief roads. This role would involve partnership working, bidding for external resources, formulating responses to consultations, appearing at public inquiries and leading with Members on high profile projects. In addition, as workloads allow, you will be a key part of the Planning Policy Team delivering a joint Local Plan for Chiltern and South Bucks District Councils’ and other related planning policy work.
We have strong leadership, direction and support from our Elected Members, and Corporate Management to build an Exemplar Planning Service. This will mean addressing head on the planning challenges we face with the right people and right ambition. Major infrastructure projects and growth pressures are key challenges we want turn into exciting opportunities and this role will be key in helping us achieve this.
Being on the fringes of London intersected by major transport routes (M25, M40 and M4 motorways, Metropolitan Tube Line, Chiltern and Great Western railway lines and Elizabeth Line to be opened in 2019) there are substantial development pressures. The proposed HS2 route also cuts through the heart of the Chiltern District and part of South Bucks District (including the design of a viaduct – the biggest structure on the entire route), whilst the proposed Heathrow runway expansion borders the southern boundary of South Bucks with direct supporting infrastructure impact.
We need to ensure that infrastructure projects deliver national and regional needs whilst also benefiting our residents and protecting our valued environment (e.g. AONB, Green Belt, town and villages character and Colne Valley Regional Park) and to plan positively to meet local development needs and deliver sustainable development with the right level of local infrastructure.
As an employer we pride ourselves on offering a fantastic, family friendly place to work. We promote flexible working with many opportunities for learning and development, along with an attractive benefits package visible in our Total Reward Booklet attached to this advert.
