Wealden is a large rural district council located in a stunning area of the South East of England reaching from the south coast either side of Eastbourne and the South Downs National Park up to the High Weald and Ashdown Forest along the borders of Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead in the north.
Whilst Wealden is a rural area, much of which is within highland scape designations, it does have a very buoyant local economy being so close to London, Gatwick Airport and key UK holiday destinations. Consequently, it receives significant numbers of planning applications for a range of new housing, conversions and employment schemes which makes it one of the busiest districts planning authority in the country.
We now require two experienced Planning Officers looking for a varied caseload of planning applications including routine handling of householder applications as a fair proportion of the caseload. You will deal with Residential, Commercial and some Major Applications, including negotiations and consultations with developers, applicants and agents, and attend site inspections and meetings, prepare proofs of evidence and reports for Committee, attend and sometimes represent the Council at Hearings.
This post requires a relevant degree/diploma in Town and Country Planning with a couple of years planning experience in a Local Authority or Consultancy background and ideally working towards RTPI membership. In addition you will need good IT and communication skills together with an enthusiasm to contribute towards shaping the Wealden of the future whilst conserving the character and natural beauty of the area.
In return we offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, car allowance, career average salary pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime, some homeworking and discounted leisure centre membership.
Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
