Senior / Principal Planning Officer,  Senior / Principal Planning Enforcement Officer

Salary - Senior Posts: Up to £44,624 p.a. depending on skills and experience

Overview

This is an opportunity to work within a forward-looking local authority that have recently completed a transformation programme. The council is based in East Surrey, covering a mixed urban / rural environment with significant Green Belt land.

As a Senior / Principal Planning Officer you will be involved in a wide variety of applications (residential through to complex commercial) and will have the opportunity to shape the planning function within the council, as a subject matter expert.

As a Senior / Principal Planning Enforcement Officer you will manage a diverse caseload of enforcement issues, liaising with customers and other stakeholders to negotiate positive outcomes. It’s important that you can demonstrate experience in achieving positive outcomes through both negotiation and formal action.

In both cases, you will also provide guidance and advice to other members of the team and support their development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on a wide range of complex planning issues
  • To process, consider and negotiate on all applications in a timely manner
  • To prepare decision notices and where necessary make robust, sound, and high quality recommendations and present reports to Committee meetings
  • To prepare and present evidence for planning and enforcement appeals
  • Share your knowledge of best practice and latest regulations in planning with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation

Essential requirements

  • To have achieved – or be working towards - RTPI charted status
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Planning
  • Planning Enforcement experience – (for enforcement roles)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Ability to make sound judgements
  • A commitment to a career in this field
  • Proactive/self-motivated
