Team: Planning Delivery – Regeneration & Business
Strategic Projects Manager (Planning Delivery)

Salary: £45,629 to £48,682 plus MRS of £5,000 per annum (the salary amount will be subject to a pay award in April 2019)

There’s more than one reason why we believe Central Bedfordshire is a great place to live and work. Our attractive market towns and beautiful villages surrounded by stunning countryside, all boosted by a prime location, great transport links and a high performing economy are all part of what makes us great.

Our Local Plan has always been about more than planning just for homes and jobs. It’s about creating communities. This means planning for new and improved roads and transport infrastructure; and new community facilities and services, such as schools, nurseries, shops, sport and leisure facilities.

We believe we can deliver up to 20,000 new homes over the next 20 years and this level of growth is sustainable. This is in addition to the 23,000 homes that are already allocated or have planning permission. Our aim is to deliver the growth in a way that respects and maintains the character of Central Bedfordshire and delivers infrastructure and services to support it.

Your role

This is more than a normal planning role, you will take ownership of and project manage strategic scale planning applications for up to 5,000 (or more) dwellings and the associated infrastructure and you will need to provide a closely managed, co-ordinated approach to see your project through.

You will provide scrutiny to what is proposed, manage both positive and negative input from key stakeholders, including Member(s), land owners and residents and negotiate to get the best outcomes the Council and its residents.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of a number of large scale new developments and influence what they could bring to the area for its residents and economy.

You’ll have a degree or masters in Town Planning (or related subject), with significant Development Management experience dealing with large scale, complex planning applications. With demonstrable project management experience, you will be confident communicating with all level of stakeholders of grand scale applications and have highly effective negotiation skills.

Your benefits

Membership of the competitive Local Government Pension Scheme from day one, agile working (plus laptop and smartphone), generous Flexitime scheme offering up to an additional 12 days leave per annum, relocation package (subject to eligibility), and many other staff discounts.
