Description

Full-time contract: 36 hours a week, P/T hours may be available for the right candidate. This is a 24 month fixed term contract.

Grade and Salary: Surrey PS10 within the salary range £39,438 - £43,744 for 36 hours per week Monday to Friday, initially based at County Hall, Kingston upon Thames KT1 2DW but the location may change. Flexible working is supported where possible, including working from home. 24 days annual leave, a local government salary-related pension and the option to join the car lease scheme.

About the role

Surrey faces huge challenges to accommodate housing and economic growth in a sustainable way in the context of a densely populated and diverse and valuable natural environment. The postholder will assist the service in ensuring the county council meets its statutory duty to cooperate obligations through working with services and engaging with districts and boroughs in local plan preparation, responding to consultations on plans and levering in funding to deliver infrastructure to support planned development and economic growth. We are also a host authority for the application for a Development Consent Order for Heathrow expansion and there will be opportunities for the postholder to work in this area.

You will have the following core skills:

  • Degree or postgraduate diploma in town and country planning or relevant subject such as geography, environmental science, sustainability or geology and membership of the RTPI or willing to work towards associate or chartered membership
  • In depth knowledge of the planning system in the UK and experience of development management, planning policy and responding to statutory consultations on Local Plans
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, district and boroughs and other partner organisations.

The post is initially fixed term for two years and part time working would be considered.
