Big Ambitions, Big Opportunities at Charnwood Borough Council
The fourth largest district in the country by population, Charnwood Borough Council is based in the market town of Loughborough and sits centrally in the triangle formed by Nottingham, Leicester and Derby in the East Midlands. Charnwood is easily accessible from the M1, the high speed rail link between Sheffield and London and the nearby East Midlands Airport
There are many reasons why an ambitious planner should want to live and work here, not least:
- We have an ambitious programme of growth detailed in our adopted Core Strategy including three sustainable urban extensions at an advanced planning stage and a world class Science and Enterprise Park,.
- The borough is home to the highly rated Loughborough University (awarded the University of the Year 2019 title, by The Times and Sunday Times University Guide).
- Charnwood has a diverse landscape with attractive countryside including the Wolds, Charnwood Forest and Outwoods Country Park along with heritage assets such as The Great Central Railway and The Bell Foundry.
We’re also a highly-regarded employer – Charnwood Borough Council has been accredited as an organisation that delivers the Customer Service Excellence Standard for the last six years. Our staff are passionate about delivering high levels of customer service, working together and looking for ways to improve service delivery – both to elected members and the borough’s residents and businesses.
What’s more, we work closely with developers to deliver schemes that are high quality in design. We’re committed to making Charnwood a great place to live and work for all.
Our Planning & Regeneration Service has a good mix of professionals at all levels and is committed to a programme to develop ‘home grown’ planners. The management team strongly supports staff development and we encourage our staff to maintain work/life balance. Our restructure in April 2018 means we are well positioned to meet the planning related challenges ahead.
