Make the move, you won’t regret it

Published on: 26 Feb 2024

We know what a great place the Folkestone & Hythe district is – but don’t just take our word for it.

Take your planning career to the next

The Sunday Times rated Folkestone as one of the best places to live (March 2023) and others rave about it too – “Funky seaside town just 55 minutes from London has houses for under £210k” (Daily Express February 2024).

Nestled in the sunny south-east, the district has 26 miles of coastline ranging from sandy beaches to Britain’s only desert at Dungeness. It’s an extraordinary place offering peace and tranquillity for those who seek it alongside an exciting buzz of creativity.

Internationally recognised artists come to celebrate the Folkestone Triennial (next one in 2025) and eye-catching works from previous exhibitions, including a tiny house in the middle of the harbour, remain dotted around the town, continually sparking interest and amazement.

The eye-catching F51 building offers not only award-winning architecture but also the world’s first purpose-built multi-storey skatepark and the tallest climbing venue in the south east.

House prices in the district remain attractive to those moving from elsewhere (Rightmove: average house price in Folkestone £305,131), with Folkestone itself retaining its Victorian terraces, Hythe has its coastal views and the Romney Marsh its dramatic vistas.

There is an impressive range of schools too, with many in the district rated by Ofsted as good and several outstanding. Four of the district’s parks fly the coveted Green Flag but if its city life that appeals then London is under an hour away via the high-speed train service and Le Shuttle’s UK terminal is on the doorstep.

Potential career highlights could be working on the development of Otterpool Park - a 10,000-home garden town, supporting delivery of a £19.7m Levelling Up Fund scheme in Folkestone town centre or helping to create new, affordable homes on a brownfield site.

There is certainly an exciting agenda for the years ahead and we’re recruiting to a range of positions to help bring the council’s ambitious vision to life.

We are looking for people who have a real passion for shaping our local area. In return we can offer a great place to live, the opportunity to develop your career, and an employer recognised by Best Companies as an outstanding organisation to work for.

Successful applicants can expect an excellent benefits package that includes hybrid and flexible working, corporate membership and discount schemes, car salary sacrifice, reimbursement of professional memberships, generous annual leave, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, and relocation packages for moving to the area.

There has never been a better time to make the move to Folkestone & Hythe.
