Fun fact

This year saw the 810th Shrove Tuesday Ball Game. It’s one of those mad scramble affairs (“a complete free-for-all”) and is run down the town’s old Roman road, Watling Street. The winner is declared at 5.00pm; it’s whoever has possession of the ball when the whistle sounds. Madness! There’s just the one hard and fast rule: players are not allowed to kill one another.

The newly crowned English Football League champions Norwich City have gone the whole hog, wearing yellow shirts and being nicknamed The Canaries.
