1. ASSISTANT PLANNING OFFICER, PRESTON CITY COUNCIL

Location: Preston, Lancs/Hybrid

Salary: £27,711 to £29,093 per annum

The job: "We're seeking an enthusiastic, well organised and motivated individual to join the development management team. In this role you'll deal with a variety of minor planning applications, including householder, advertisement and listed building applications. The role will require you to have a background knowledge of the planning system as well as current planning legislation, policies and procedures. You should have excellent communication and negotiation skills, and you'll be expected to be able to act on your own initiative and have the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines. 

"With more than £20m of Towns Fund grant, major leisure and public realm projects underway, a new commercial quarter planned at Preston station and the ongoing implementation of the multi-award-winning City Living Strategy alongside the delivery of thousands of new homes and major infrastructure investment and delivery through the City Deal, Preston has developed a new confidence for positive change."

2. PLANNING TECHNICIAN, AMBER VALLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL

Location: Ripley, Derbyshire/Flexible

Salary: Grade 4 - £25,992, to £27,711 per year

The job: "This is an exciting opportunity to join the council’s development management team. As planning technician, you will:

  • Assist with processing planning applications, permitted development enquiries, pre-application enquiries and planning enforcement issues.
  • Respond accurately and promptly to enquiries and communications from the public, elected members and other stakeholders.
  • Undertake checking and validation of planning applications.
  • Prepare, sort, scan and index incoming mail relating to planning applications, pre-application enquiries and planning enforcement complaints.
  • Undertake case closures for planning applications following determination.
  • Provide information to customers using electronic records.

"You'll have effective communication skills, good organisational skills, an ability to prioritise workload and an ability to work on your own initiative with minimum supervision."

3. SENIOR OFFICER COMPLIANCE – LAND AND HABITAT, GOVERNMENT OF JERSEY

Location: Jersey

Salary: £73,304.59 to £80,567.67

The job: "We are proud of our island and its unique environment, and our team helps protect and enhance this by ensuring the enforcement of planning legislation. Our team manages the whole process, from investigating alleged breaches to securing acceptable outcomes and, where necessary, taking legal action to address harmful breaches of planning, building and wildlife laws. 

"We need someone who is passionate and knowledgeable of the relevant laws and procedures and is able to utilise this knowledge when working with islanders to resolve breaches. With broad delegated powers to authorise appropriate formal action to secure compliance in an appropriate manner, you'll contribute to safeguarding the beauty and future of the island.

4. CONSERVATION OFFICER, HARBOROUGH DISTRICT COUNCIL

Location: Market Harborough, Leicestershire/Agile

Salary: Grade 7 £37,035 to £39,513 – plus a 10% golden hello payment

The job: "Can you help to conserve and enhance Harborough district’s heritage?

"Harborough District Council in rural south Leicestershire is one of the most prosperous and attractive areas of England and includes a wealth of heritage and development growth areas. The district has 1,284 listed buildings, 63 conservation areas, 66 scheduled monuments and six registered parks and gardens. We're also developing a local list of non-designated heritage assets.

"Working with the development management team, you'll help to provide specialist heritage advice on a varied caseload of applications ranging from householders to major development proposals, as well as dealing with your own caseload of listed building consent and planning applications. You'll also provide conservation advice to a range of stakeholders."

5.PRINCIPAL PLANNER, EAST SUFFOLK COUNCIL

Location: Melton, Suffolk

Salary: £52,805 - £56,985 per annum

The job: "We have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's development management team as a principal planner for our south area team covering communities including Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Martlesham and Kesgrave along with villages and rural areas.

"In this lead planning role, you'll manage a team of planning professionals to support the delivery of the development management service within East Suffolk, as well as manage and assess planning applications and pre-application submissions in accordance with planning law, national and local policy and guidance. You'll be a be a lead contributor in the planning referral and committee process, forging strong working relations with elected members. 

"In addition, you'll contribute to the wider development management team, supporting colleagues with planning enforcement matters and to deliver planning decisions of all scales whilst also assisting the infrastructure team to support infrastructure delivery through CIL, s106 and with external bodies. You will have a strong eye for urban design and good environmental awareness in decision making, including experience of environmental impact assessments."
