Senior Planning Officer – 2 year limited term contract


You will play an important role in enabling the multi-disciplinary Strategic Major Sites Team to examine, process and evaluate the largest and most complex planning and related applications within South Gloucestershire.

The Main Duties of the role are:

Working within the Major Sites Team you will be required to examine, process and evaluate minor and major planning and related applications, including site inspections, negotiations and preparation of reports to the committee, or reports under the officer delegation arrangements.

To handle related planning appeals by the preparation of written statements, or by appearing as the Council’s representative at Hearings, or as an expert witness at Public Inquiries.

To deal with planning pre-application advice relating to planning legislation, site histories, current applications and other planning matters made by members of the public in person, by telephone or through correspondence.

Liaise and co-ordinate work activities with other sections and divisions of the directorate, and outside bodies including statutory undertakers and government departments in connection with all development control matters.

To liaise with the planning officers (enforcement) regarding unauthorised development.

To provide general assistance and cover for absent colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of the development control service.

To contribute to initiatives to achieve a customer focused service, designed to be proactive and add community value to the development control process
