Planning Development Control Support Officer

Building and Construction - Cardiff

The Transport Vision, Strategy and Policy team of the City Operations Directorate in Cardiff Council needs a Planning Development Control Support Officer to support in auditing the transport submissions for planning applications. They will be required to undertake or attend site visits/inspections in relation to planning applications.

The Planning Development Control Support Officer will require the following skills and experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering/Transportation or Equivalent. Member of Appropriate Institution.
  • Experience in Highway and Transportation related environment.
  • Familiarity with planning and development control procedures relating to Highway and Transportation Issues.
  • High level of communication skills both verbal and written, together with good interpersonal skills to be able to understand and convey messages effectively.
  • Proven experience of delivering a customer focused services.
  • Proven experience of working in a multi-disciplined environment such as supporting other teams or cross directorate working.
  • IT literate. Working knowledge of Microsoft Packages (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to manage own workload and that of others.
  • Able to prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Experience within UK Building and Construction industry
  • Full valid driving licence.

Desirable skills and experience for Planning Development Control Support Officer:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in Transportation or Town Planning.
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or Equivalent.
  • Local Government Experience.

The support will need to be flexible to work with the varying demands. On average, it is expected that the support will be needed for approximately 25 hours per week initially for a 6 month period.
