Planning Officer (Development Management)
Tamworth Borough Council
Growth, Assets and Environment
37 HOURS PER WEEK
Tamworth is a historic market town that has seen considerable growth over the last 40 years to make it one of the largest towns in the West Midlands. With great access to the countryside and excellent road and rail links it is a popular place to live, work and visit.
The Tamworth Local Plan was adopted in early 2016 and is key to promoting development and growth within the area. Major new developments promoted by the Local Plan, for retail, commercial and housing development are now coming forward requiring a detailed appraisal of planning applications.
The town also has a wealth of unique heritage assets, green and blue infrastructure, modern shopping and leisure facilities as well as excellent transport links to the West Midlands conurbation. This has resulted in pressure for development within the Borough and on its borders.
We are looking for an enthusiastic planning officer who can deal with a varied workload including taking part in pre application negotiations, processing major, minor and other planning applications, monitoring developments for compliance, and preparing and presenting the Borough Councils case in the event of appeals.
The candidate will require experience of working in a development management environment and have a recognised planning qualification. Candidates are actively encouraged to speak to the Development Manager or Senior Planning Officer (Development Management) about the role and potential training opportunities. Knowledge and application of I.T. systems used to support the development management process will be important.
The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, health scheme, LGPS pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, nationality check and medical clearance.
For an informal discussion about the job role please contact John Gunn (Development Manager) on 01827 709288 or Andrew Collinson (Senior Planning Officer – Development Management) on 01827 709273.
