Principal Planning Officer
Situated along the strategically important London - Stansted corridor, exciting times are ahead as we look to deliver growth through a range of development opportunities. This ambitious growth agenda includes Meridian Water where upwards of 12000 new homes and 5000 jobs will be created and we are also well placed to maximize growth opportunities of Crossrail 2 for the Borough.
The Council has its own ambitious agenda for regeneration, including a number of significant estate regeneration schemes and together with several emerging urban regeneration projects, is keen to promote sustainable development which provides housing and jobs for local residents.
Managing this to deliver optimal growth of the highest design standard is the key challenge and the Development Management Service has been strengthened to realise developments which make a positive contribution to the Borough, its people and environment. The Design Review Panel currently being established will help to deliver high quality development to the Borough.
These are rewarding roles which are key to the performance of the Service and the successful regeneration of the Borough with emphasis placed on the delivery of high quality outcomes through a coordinated approach to the assessment of development proposals. You will also have excellent focus on customer service and you will need to be confident in dealing with applicants and their agents, Councillors and residents.
You will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of development given the make up of the Borough which includes 22 conservation area, over 450 listed building, and significant areas of green belt, and industrial land.
This is a key role within one of our busy area teams. Supporting the Planning Decisions Managers, you will have direct responsibility for and contribute to the day to day management of performance, quality and output of the team, including issuing planning decisions under the Councils scheme of delegation and the provision of support and guidance for staff under your line management. You will also have the opportunity to deal with major and more complex development proposals together with pre-application enquiries which could include proposals for Enfield Town, estate regeneration and other growth opportunities associated with our Crossrail 2 ambitions.
You will have substantial professional experience with a sound knowledge of development management, enforcement and appeals as well as the policy, legislation and processes involved in delivering the statutory planning service in a local planning authority. In addition you will be a Member of the RTPI and will have a degree in Planning / Urban Planning / Environment or equivalent discipline. You will also have worked in development management at a local authority over a sustained period of time.
