St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history which can be seen in the Roman remains and variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, historic city centre and charming villages. Our refurbished offices are in the city centre near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short, it is a great place to live and work.

As a Graduate Planner working at one of the leading planning authorities in England, you'll have the potential to further develop your professional skills and build a varied career within the Planning arena. With a new draft Local Plan and a recently announced Enterprise Zone, we have a variety of interesting planning challenges. It’s an exciting time to join us!

You will be a student and/or licentiate member of the RTPI and be working towards a qualification in Town Planning.  Knowledge of the development management process, including relevant regulations and policy guidance, together with some knowledge of conservation area, listed building and advertisement regulations and how these can be applied to the determination of planning applications, is essential for this post.

An excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills, you must be computer literate with knowledge of MS Office Suite, together with an aptitude for using development management software. A commitment to excellent customer services, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to work to very strict deadlines, is also essential.

We offer a competitive package which includes up to 24 days annual leave, pension scheme, reimbursement of professional fees, training and development opportunities, flexitime, staff parking permit, flexible working options (including homeworking, term time compressed hours, etc.), leisure and travel discounts and other benefits.
