As a Planner working at one of the busiest Planning Authorities in the country, and with a new draft Strategic Plan and a recently announced Enterprise Zone, we have a variety of interesting planning challenges. You will provide professional advice, guidance, interpretation and evaluation on all aspects of development management to service users to meet statutory and service requirements. You will also lead on the consideration and negotiation of planning applications, and provide a decision recommendation on each application within statutory time limits, to continue to make St Albans an attractive place to live, work and visit for our residents, businesses and tourists.

You will ideally be a member of the RTPI, or be working towards being so, and hold a Town Planning qualification. Knowledge of the development management process, relevant regulations and policy guidance, along with knowledge of conservation area, listed building and advertisement regulations and how these can be applied in practise, would be an advantage.

An excellent communicator, you will also be IT literate with an aptitude for using development management software. A commitment to excellent customer services, a flexible approach to work and the ability to work to very strict deadlines, are also essential qualities for this role.
