Are you passionate about design and conservation and looking for your next challenge? If so, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design and Conservation Officer to join our councils.

Most of our district is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has an impressive heritage stock of 2,500+ listed buildings, 35 conservation areas and 7 registered parklands. From desirable seaside towns including Aldeburgh and Walberswick to the rapidly improving resort of Felixstowe and the fortified towns of Framlingham and Orford, our district has a huge variety of urban, rural and coastal heritage crowned by the internationally important cultural venue of Snape Maltings.

At the same time, our district is becoming recognised for the high quality of its contemporary architecture with district projects featuring regularly on Grand Designs, RIBA House of the Year and the RIBA annual awards schemes. We believe this provides us with a varied and truly exciting district for a Design and Conservation Officer to operate in.

You will be able to exercise and grow your skills as a persuasive negotiator, an advocate of outstanding design, an enforcer of the best standards in conservation and as a team player through your responsibility for casework, appraisals, designations, guidance, and managing grants budgets and consultants.

In addition, your key roles unique to our district will include contributing creatively to the harmonisation of working policies and practice across east Suffolk in design and conservation; organising the annual Quality of Place awards; liaising with the RIBA Suffolk Design Review Panel; and inspiring local communities to join in Heritage Open Days.

In return, we can offer great opportunities for training and development, including providing training that will help you gain full membership of the IHBC. The team has a wealth of expertise and extensive experience in conservation, planning, architecture and urban design, so you will receive all the support you need to build a great career with our organisation.

There is also a superb benefits package including flexible working options and purpose-built, brand new office accommodation, as well as a generous leave entitlement, discount scheme, pension scheme, payment of professional fees and free car parking.
