Bovis Homes’ Strategic Land Team is responsible for identifying unconsented sites suitable for residential development, and promoting these through the planning system to achieve planning permission.  Working closely with colleagues in land acquisition and development delivery, and supported by the Planning Director, you will manage a diverse portfolio of sites across Bovis’ operating area: comprising both short and longer term opportunities.

We are seeking candidates with strong communication skills, confident in working in partnership with landowners, agents, local authorities and other stakeholders to represent Bovis Homes. 

Previous employment with a house builder or experience of working in strategic land is not essential but would be considered an advantage.  We can offer a the successful candidate the opportunity to develop significant expertise in strategic land promotion and management at one of country’s leading housebuilders.  

The role

Main purpose

To promote and achieve planning approval for the development of strategic land held within the portfolio of Bovis Homes. To assist in the identification and assessment of new land opportunities which have potential for future development.

Typical activities:

Establish a strategy and programme for promoting each strategic land site and keep this under regular review;

To ensure that sites are effectively promoted to achieve a local plan allocation and/or planning consent;

Review site contracts and ensure that all sites are being promoted in line with the necessary contractual and planning obligations;

Discuss development proposals for sites with local planning authorities and other relevant bodies, through formal or informal pre-application routes;

Instruct and manage external consultants, in line with the Company’s compliance procedures and monitor/report budgets accordingly;

Ensure the timely submission of appropriate representations at relevant stages of the development plan process, including responses to a LPA’s evidence base;

Manage the preparation, submission and determination of planning applications, including negotiation of Section 106 and CIL agreements;

As required, instruct Counsel and seek legal advice in relation to land holdings; As required, submit planning appeals and manage the appeal process ensuring that all relevant deadlines are met;

Assist colleagues in the preparation of viability appraisals by providing relevant planning information;

To assist the wider strategy land team in the identification and assessment of new land opportunities, and to assist in acquiring the site under an option at suitable terms;

Undertake planning appraisals of new land opportunities, to include likely timescales for delivery, key constraints and opportunities. Provide recommendations as to the suitability of the opportunity against Bovis requirements;

Develop and maintain regular contact with appropriate land and planning contacts within priority areas; and

Ensure all relevant departments are kept up to date with information relevant to the search for and acquisition of land.
