Job Summary

The AECOM Planning team, covering the north of England and Wales is based in Manchester and Leeds. The team has a broad range of clients and works on high profile commissions and is active across a wide breadth of planning-related discipline areas. We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Planner in the Manchester office with experience in spatial planning, planning policy, Sustainability Appraisal/Strategic Sustainability Assessment and development management. Working as a Senior Planner with AECOM, you will manage projects of varying scales and typically will be required to prepare planning statements for a range of developments, carry out sustainability appraisals for Local Plans as well as spatial planning work including neighborhood planning.

Job Duties

The main duties of the Senior Planner would include;

  • Acting as Project Manager to determine team members, provide team briefing and manage commissions to appropriate level of quality, budget and programme;

  • Undertaking spatial planning work including neighbourhood planning, SEA/SA and Local Plan preparation support;

  • Preparing and submitting planning applications, including coordinating multi-disciplinary team across various project types;

  • Providing general planning advice to colleagues and clients;

  • Involvement in environmental studies and EIA’s;

  • Contributing to the preparation of technical proposals, and business development for the team.

  • Prepare client reports and review work of more junior members of staff.

Minimum Requirements

The following skills and experience are required;

  • Hold at least three years post-graduate experience, including within a consultancy environment;

  • Project management experience including the management of planning applications;

  • Strong experience of working within a team-based multi-disciplinary culture;

  • Show a strong interest and experience in planning policy development, community regeneration; development management and/or SA/SEA preparation;

  • Strong experience of community and stakeholder consultation exercises;

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You will be Degree qualified in a relevant discipline

  • You will be a full Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, MRTPI
