Salary: £39,106 - £42,107 (Scale PO6 – PO9) Please note that this salary includes a £5,000 Market Rate Supplement (Non-contractual)

We are a busy and proactive local planning authority, located in a beautiful setting in South Essex sub-region, bordering London, with a complete local development plan to support and direct the future growth and prosperity of the area up to 2025 and beyond. We have ambitious plans for delivery of new jobs and housing, working with local authority partners, the development industry and other key agencies, to create high quality sustainable communities. Some key projects for the team will be the management of applications for large scale new housing and employment allocations, implementation of a high tech business park of 100,000m2, as well as the growth of London Southend Airport.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced planner to influence and shape development in the area and to support the Council in achieving one of its key priorities to deliver high quality developments. You will be a key member of a friendly, supportive and hard working team which is seeking to continue delivering excellent performance and high quality service.
Key parts of the role will be to assess, write and present recommendations relating to major applications to our Development Committee. The ability to negotiate effectively with applicants and their agents is also essential to the role. You will also be expected to deputise for team leaders at times.
We are looking for dynamic, positive and hardworking individuals, with excellent communication skills and extensive relevant experience of dealing with major and complex applications. You should be able to demonstrate excellent ability to work on your own initiative and a responsibility and commitment to achieve high levels of performance and customer service. You will have detailed knowledge of Development Management planning and a full understanding of the processes and complexities of delivering the statutory planning service in a local planning authority setting.
You must be able to work creatively and constructively with the management team, applicants, the local community and other stakeholders to ensure that the Council’s planning priorities are delivered.
