Lancaster District offers an environment of exceptional quality and opportunity. Alongside a UK top-ten University the district encompasses two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a National Park, and the stunning coastline of Morecambe Bay. The Council has submitted a Local Plan that proposes a number of strategic development sites and a Garden Village, all of which provide opportunity for significant growth in the district.

We are looking for a Planning Officer, on a 24 month fixed term basis, to help prepare for the Local Examination Hearing sessions anticipated in the autumn. You will be required to contribute towards the appraisal and development of evidence and continue the development of policy and supplementary guidance.  The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on important national initiatives on brownfield land, self-build and self-commissioning.  For a candidate who is motivated to deliver on these initiatives we can offer the prospect of working with experienced professionals in a capable Planning and Housing Policy team.

If you believe you can act with the independence, integrity and competence that can be demonstrated only by Chartered Membership of the RTPI, then this is a role for you.

You will already have sound knowledge of Local Plan processes and a good awareness of the recent legislation and guidance on brownfield land registers, self-build and self-commissioning.  The ability to develop and maintain good working arrangements, and, engage and interact with a wide range of colleagues, external partners and stakeholders are essential attributes.  An ability to reliably represent the council is also required.

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday, but there are occasional reasonable requirements to assist and attend at evening and weekend meetings and consultation events. This post is based at Morecambe Town Hall.
