Permanent post

Dacorum is an attractive Hertfordshire borough comprising Hemel Hempstead new town, the market towns of Berkhamsted and Tring and a range of smaller historic villages. Lying only 25 miles from central London, the borough experiences significant pressures and must balance that against the need to protect the quality of its environment, which includes high quality landscape such as the Chilterns AONB.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an innovative individual to play a key role within a proactive and dynamic team who lead on Dacorum’s new Local Plan. It is an exciting time for plan-making in Dacorum, as we are in the early stages of a new Local Plan process which seeks to address the challenges of growth while safeguarding the special characteristics of our area.

With its neighboring authorities, the Council has also initiated the preparation of a new Joint Strategic Plan for South West Hertfordshire, which will look to deliver a longer term plan for the area, and some of the key strategic opportunities for growth beyond the lifetime of emerging local plans.

To ensure its plans continue to come to fruition, the Council has invested heavily to deliver a range of ambitious and exciting regeneration projects within Hemel Hempstead Town Centre including The Forum, The Water Gardens and the enhancement of the pedestrianised shopping area. This investment will continue in future as the Council seeks to deliver its vision and optimise the opportunities provided by the growth being planned.

The successful candidate will contribute towards shaping our vision, planning for the future and evidencing decisions made which will support the growth of Dacorum.

You will be excellent at partnership working, able to work as part of a team and have experience of working in planning policy, regeneration or a planning related field. As an experienced officer you will be highly motivated, professional, committed to evidence-based decision-making and used to providing great customer service.

You will also be flexible, adaptable, forward thinking, solution focused and able to understand your individual contribution to the bigger picture. With a “can do” attitude, an aptitude for negotiation and problem solving, and a developed initiative, you will also be skilled at balancing a number of competing priorities.

In order to deliver a range of projects you will work closely with other teams including:

  • Development Management colleagues
  • Economic Wellbeing and Growth and Infrastructure teams
  • Strategic Housing
  • Colleagues from the County Council

You will help ensure we deliver high quality development that meets the needs of this varied Borough.

We offer a flexible working environment and further training opportunities to extend your existing skill set.  Local government is rapidly evolving and we would like our new colleague to grow with us and embrace this positive challenge.
