New Forest District Council is one of the largest District Council’s in the UK. We cover an area of approximately 290 square miles, with 176,000 residents and approximately 16 million visitors annually. The Government has set us a challenge of delivering a very significant increase in housing delivery in one of the most attractive and environmentally sensitive areas of the country. Our local plan for 2016-2036 proposes a target of 10,500 new homes within one of the most environmentally sensitive districts in England. We are looking for someone that can provide strong leadership and management of a very busy planning service covering both planning policy and development management functions.  For this unique challenge we are looking for a driven Planning professional committed to delivery sustainable development while safeguarding our precious environment. 

We are therefore recruiting a Chief Planning Officer to lead our Planning Service in delivering this important agenda. A proven track record on a relevant scale is essential for the successful candidate. You will have exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the drive, expertise and determination to ensure we achieve our strategic goals as well as providing strong leadership and management of busy, robust and forward thinking planning teams.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related discipline at Senior Management Level and practical experience both local/strategic policy planning and development management.
