Planning Officer

Dartmoor National Park Authority

Parke Estate, Bovey Tracey

Grade 4/5: £21,074 - £30,756

Permanent, full time

Would you like to be at the forefront of shaping the future of Dartmoor?  Are you looking for a job that requires you to work in an inspiring natural landscape, rich in history?  Are you looking for a new challenge in an iconic rural environment in the glorious South West?  If so, then we might have just the job for you…

We are seeking to appoint a Planning Officer to join our small team charged with providing the Development Management service for the National Park.  Ideally, you will already have experience in Development Management and the monitoring of development within a Local Authority with a good knowledge and understanding of current planning legislation and procedures.  If you a qualified Planner and a corporate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) that would be even better.

Not yet qualified but have relevant experience?  We are still interested to hear from you particularly if you are working towards becoming a Chartered Planner in the near future.  This post could be the ideal stepping stone to a career in Planning.

A flexible approach to problem solving is key; expect to be involved in a wide range of planning work with emphasis on the resolution of planning enforcement cases, applications and the committee work and  appeals that may result.  You will spend a significant amount of time out of the office visiting sites in the National Park.

Whilst we are passionate about our environment, we are also focussed on the people, communities and businesses we serve – delivering sustainable development in a protected landscape is an exciting challenge.  The customer is at the heart of what we do so you will need to demonstrate the ability to confidently engage with a wide range of audiences using sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.

Appointment at the higher end of the grade will be based on experience and additional responsibilities include dealing with planning applications, making recommendations and presenting your reports to the Development Management Committee and representing the Authority at appeal hearings.

The post is based at our stunning headquarters on the National Trust’s Parke estate on the outskirts of Bovey Tracey.

The Authority operates flexible working hours and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme. Dartmoor National Park Authority is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
