Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils are a forward-thinking and proactive successful Local Planning Authorities situated in accessible, attractive countryside within South Worcestershire. We are seeking an enthusiastic team member who would thrive on the challenge of managing a complex but varied caseload and was looking to get management experience through deputising for the team leader when necessary.

Senior Planning Officer
£32,233 - £36,153 per annum

You will deal with a wide range of complex and major planning applications and pre application enquiries and will prepare reports and recommendations on applications. You will be experienced in presenting applications to Planning Committees and will be expected to work closely with the public, members of the Council, developers and their representatives. You will also deal with appeals and act, where appropriate, as the Council’s witness at Public Inquiries and Informal Hearings. This job would suit somebody looking to progress their career as it offers variety and management responsibility when deputising for the Team Leader.

We need someone with excellent communication skills, membership of the RTPI, together with relevant experience in Development Management, ideally gained in a local authority but can be private sector. You will have comprehensive and up to date knowledge of planning law and practice and possess good computer literacy with property database and GIS systems.

You will have a broad range of Development Management experience in both urban and rural issues and be experienced in appearing at Informal Hearings and ideally but not necessarily Public Inquiries and managing a caseload of complex/ contentious planning applications; You will need good communication and customer care skills.

This post is part of a Joint Service that will be employed by Malvern Hills District Council but based primarily in Pershore.

There will be a requirement to travel within the District with flexibility to attend evening meetings on occasion.
