About the role
Our two planning teams have a significant role to play in helping us make life better by water. One team is dedicated to our role as a statutory consultee and influencing planning policy while the other provides internal planning advice and secures planning consents for sites and activities. Join us, as a Planning Assistant, and you’ll provide vital support across both teams while enjoying lots of opportunities to develop your experience and skills.
Among other things, the role involves taking on a caseload of household and minor planning consultations, providing advice about developments that are proposed next to our waterways. You will also secure planning permission for small schemes and assist with securing planning permission for larger developments.
This role would ideally suit a talented team player who has completed – or is about to complete – a relevant master’s, diploma or degree-level qualification and who is looking to work towards RTPI membership. You must be able to demonstrate knowledge of development management and planning policy processes. Some experience of spatial or delivery planning disciplines would also be ideal.
We’re the charity who look after and bring to life 2000 miles of canals and rivers. Our waterways contribute to the health and wellbeing of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the strategic and local green-blue infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways are on the doorstep of 8 million people and reach some of the most deprived communities within the UK. By caring for our waterways and promoting their use we believe we can improve the wellbeing of our nation. Come and be part of it.
We aim to represent the diverse communities we are part of and welcome applicants from across all sectors of the community. We strongly believe that a diverse workforce brings with it a diversity of ideas, thinking and ways of working which enhances what we do.
