Summary
Here at the National Trust, we care for and provide access to more land and buildings in England, Wales and Northern Ireland than any other private landowner. Small wonder, then, that effective planning and land management is at the heart of everything we do. But our properties are under increasing pressure from competing land uses and we have an important role to play in promoting an integrated approach to sustainable development.
We understand the importance of influencing the planning system at local, regional and national levels in accordance with our statutory purpose, in order to safeguard special places, but at the same time by regarding conservation as the careful management of change. These are busy and exciting times and our Planning team is key to taking on the challenges facing.
What it's like to work here
This role will be based out of our new Chilterns Hub located in High Wycombe. However, you will work with and travel to a number of properties across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and West London.
What you'll be doing
Leading on planning matters across much of the Region’s portfolio of properties, you’ll provide expert advice, with a strong focus on heritage and conservation on everything from local planning to development management and major infrastructure proposals. You will be able to tackle a wide range of issues, from external proposals affecting listed buildings, protected landscapes and urban green spaces to assisting the NT with planning aspects of conserving and developing the potential of our special places . With your proven experience, colleagues will look to you for in-depth, up-to-the-minute advice and guidance. Like everyone here, you’ll relish the challenge of helping more and more people to enjoy our magical places and spaces, and to safeguard them for ever, for everyone.
Who we're looking for
You’ll have significant practical knowledge of urban and rural planning, major infrastructure, environmental issues, landscape, conservation and sustainable development. You also have your finger firmly on the planning pulse, and just as importantly, you appreciate that today’s big planning issues call for innovative solutions. You’ll have an up-to-date understanding of what’s happening in the wider world of land use and planning (including relevant legislation).Combining a flexible, agile working style with an analytical and methodical approach, you’re confident interpreting data and using your findings to influence colleagues and support them in the decision making process. A full UK driving licence is a necessity for this role as regular travel within the London and South East region (and occasionally further afield) will be required.
