The Development Management department at Three Rivers District Council is offering a permanent full time Planning Officer position within its Planning Enforcement Team. Three Rivers District Council is a high achieving organisation at the leading edge of public services. The Development Management Service achieves excellent results and continues to strive for excellence with investment in the service development and ICT central to our continuing success. On the fringe of London, the District is experiencing significant development pressure, with a variety of planning applications. The District has an excellent built and natural environment, many Conservation Areas, Listed Buildings and major areas of Green Belt and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We promote the highest standards of design through negotiation and pro-active work.
Development Management is a statutory function provided by the Council to assess and determine planning applications and related work including assisting members of the public and their representatives with planning matters, investigating enforcement cases and handling planning appeals. The section comprises a team of professional staff who hold professional qualifications accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute or are currently working towards being qualified.
Skills and Experience:
The role includes a combination of handling of pre-application enquiries, assessing planning applications and subsequent appeals, undertaking enforcement investigations and project work. Dealing with a varied caseload you will have the potential to develop your career and make an important positive contribution to the local area.
The role will require strong verbal, written and presentation skills and must be able to demonstrate your ability and initiative to handle a diverse and competing workload and work to tight deadlines. Good interpersonal skills will also be necessary as you will be liaising and negotiating with the public, external agents and organisations, Council Members and other Council departments.
