Would you like to be at the forefront of shaping the future of Dartmoor? Are you looking for a job that requires you to work in an inspiring natural landscape, rich in history? Are you looking for a new challenge in an iconic rural environment in the glorious South West? If so, then we might have just the job for you…

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Building Conservation Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic conservation professional in an historically rich environment.

Dartmoor is one of the most important historical landscapes in the country and is home to over 2500 listed buildings, (of which 50 are listed grade I), 25 conservation areas and an unparalleled archaeological landscape.

As the Building Conservation Officer, you will provide specialist advice on all areas of the Authority’s work, this will include policy development, professional guidance relating to listed buildings and conservation areas and the opportunity to develop and manage projects to conserve and enhance the historic built environment.

The role will see you engaging in pre-application discussions, processing and determining listed building consent applications together with associated appeal and enforcement work, the preparation of Conservation Area Appraisals and review and maintenance of the Authority’s Buildings at Risk Register.

The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator, capable of providing high quality advice in a concise and timely manner, based on expert analysis and assessment, and a sound understanding of legislation, policy and good practice. The ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team is essential.

You will be required to demonstrate experience working in the field of historic buildings and/or conservation. A degree or post graduate qualification in historic buildings, or equivalent is required.

Whilst we are passionate about our environment, we are also focussed on the people, communities and businesses we serve – delivering sustainable development in a protected landscape is an exciting challenge. The customer is at the heart of what we do so you will need to demonstrate the ability to confidently engage with a wide range of audiences using sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.

The Authority operates flexible working hours and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

The posts are based at our stunning headquarters on the National Trust’s Parke estate on the outskirts of Bovey Tracey.

Dartmoor National Park Authority is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
