Senior Planning Officer (Minerals & Waste)

Your new role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Minerals and Waste Planning Team as a Senior Planning Officer. Although based in the unitary authority of Central Bedfordshire, the Minerals and Waste Planning Service provides professional advice and support to both Bedford Borough and Luton Councils and the government.

Working for us will give you a varied caseload and experience linked to all aspects of planning delivery. There will be opportunities to be involved in exciting new mineral and waste developments alongside core planning delivery work.

Your responsibilities

  • To tackle complex planning applications and pre-application enquiries
  • To lead negotiations in legal agreements
  • To act as an expert witness in planning hearings and inquiries
  • To provide definitive advice on the planning process
  • To have an input to minerals and waste forward planning matters

Your qualifications, skills and experience

You will have a degree (or recognised equivalent) in Town Planning or related field, be a member of the Royal Town Planning institute and have broad local development framework or development management work within a local authority. You will need a current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.

With good political and commercial awareness, and strong communication skills, you will have a gift for influencing others and leading partnerships and be committed to

evidence-based decision making.
