‘Temporary Two Year Position’

The Borough of Fylde is located on the Lancashire Coast and contains the attractive coastal towns of Lytham and St. Annes and an extensive rural hinterland containing the market town of Kirkham and a number of attractive rural villages.

This post is located within the Regeneration Team which comprises of a series of specialists who individually and collectively input into the planning function of The Council. The team is involved with the delivery of regeneration projects within town and village centres, the delivery of the Council’s Heritage Strategy, arboricultural matters, landscape architecture and economic development. The team offers urban design advice to the development management service and other parts of The Council in respect of corporate projects.

At this time, the Council is engaged with a number of exciting initiatives across the range of activities with which the team operates, including coastal defence schemes, the development of an Enterprise Zone and other economic development matters. A major topical issue is the on-going regeneration of its town centres extending and adding to the success of the work so far, but also rising to the on-going challenges of maintaining and enhancing the vitality and vibrancy of the centres. The Council has in place budgets for town centre enhancement works but it will also be looking to positively work towards taking advantage of government initiatives, including the recently announced Future High Street Fund. This overall strategy will be based on a multi-faceted approach to regeneration, public realm enhancement and place making, heritage, business development, branding and marketing, accessibility and partnership working.

The nature of the job means that excellent communication is essential as will be the ability to positively engage with the public, businesses, elected members and external organisations. You will need to be outgoing by nature and have the confidence to rise to the challenges ahead. 

The successful candidates’ starting salary will be dependent on their experience, with knowledge of working in a similar environment a distinct advantage. A track record of success in this field of planning work will also be to your advantage. The scope of the role is based around the delivery of successful economic development outcomes, but there will be the opportunity to become involved with the wider remit of the work of the team and some management responsibilities form part of the role.
