This is an exciting opportunity to manage and lead Horsham District Council’s Strategic Planning Team, influencing future changes to the District, and contributing to maintaining Horsham District as an attractive place to live, visit and do business.
Set in the heart of West Sussex, Horsham District offers a diverse and unique opportunity to enjoy both the town, which has this year launched its Year of Culture, the countryside and coasts of the south.
We have an up to date Local Plan and a number of Made Neighbourhood Plans and are now preparing our Local Plan Review. We have at least 16,000 homes to provide for over the current Plan period and we consented over 1100 in the last year.

We are looking for an individual who will lead and support the Council’s aspirations to have exemplary place making, employment and commercial expansion and transformative environmental enhancements, ensuring that our infrastructure develops in step with the growth of the area.
You will have the professional lead responsibility for conservation, heritage and landscape matters, the achievement of exemplary design in development across the District, as well as policy advice to Development Management. You will work with other Council directorates on corporate projects such as public realm enhancements.
You will be working with a friendly, supportive and dedicated team. We encourage and support professional development and offer a generous benefits package to support your work life balance.
Benefits which include:
- 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Option to buy additional annual leave
- Flexible working
- Payment of RTPI subscriptions
