Horsham District Council has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Compliance Officer (Investigation) within our Planning Compliance Team.

Horsham is a busy Local Planning Authority considering around 3000 applications each year and, we have an adopted Local Enforcement Plan which sets out Horsham District Council’s policy for the enforcement of planning control within the district. We receive approximately 600 cases each year to investigate, ranging from household extensions; Gypsy and Traveller cases; barn conversions, change of use, commercial and compliance with major housing schemes.  And when necessary, taking formal investigation and enforcement action to resolve identified unacceptable breaches of planning control.

As a Planning Compliance Officer, you will take ownership of a large number of breaches of planning control, undertaking an investigation and site visit, and initially working with the owner to seek to rectify the breach of planning control where appropriate, without the need for formal action.

You will manage a varied caseload of housing, commercial and other types of interesting cases in the North of the District, covering Horsham Town and the surrounding villages such as Rusper, Rudgwick, Broadbridge Heath, Slinfold and Southwater. You will be a motivated individual who has experience of investigative and analysis work. Knowledge of planning control, as well as an understanding of planning policy would be desirable but full training will be given.

You will be working with a friendly, supportive and dedicated team. We encourage and support professional development and offer a generous benefits package to support your work life balance, including 27 days annual leave per annum plus bank holidays, car parking permit, childcare vouchers and professional subscription fees.

Please contact Madeleine Hartley the Planning Compliance Team Leader on 01403 215168 with any questions for the post.
