About The Team

We are a hard working team of six and are looking to recruit to a position as a Career Grade Planning Enforcement Officer.

Your work at Hounslow will be extremely varied, from enforcement matters in our densely population east- Chiswick and Brentford, to dealing with portfolio rogue landlords primarily in Hounslow, Heston, Cranford and part of Southall, to the various green belt issues associated with the west of the borough on the edge of greater London and Heathrow airport. We are especially keen to find an officer who has been involved, or is keen to get involved with prosecutions and especially utilising the Proceeds of Crime Act. We employ a dedicated Financial Investigator who investigates any ill-gotten gains and assist with these prosecutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. You will have your own caseloads of complaints
  2. To need to investigate whether planning permission is needed
  3. This will include searching through records electronically
  4. You need to go out on site visits, taking measurements and photos on site
  5. You need to be able to respect the confidentiality of complainants

Your Skills

  1. You need to have knowledge of planning and planning law
  2. You need to have basic knowledge of what needs planning permission
  3. You should be able to accurately record and interpret what you find electronically
  4. You need excellent customer care skills, to listen to complainants and record their concerns

Essential for the Role:

  • You should have relevant experience of working in planning and / or planning enforcement

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
