About the role:

LUC’s presence in Edinburgh and Glasgow continues to grow and we are looking to add further to our talented and increasingly multi-disciplinary team.  We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Planning team in Scotland.

Our development planning experience includes renewable energy, housing and mixed-use development, minerals and waste planning, infrastructure, primary, secondary and tertiary education, health, agriculture and forestry development, and sport and recreation.

The role includes engaging with a range of development projects for both public and private sector clients, including:

  • Advising clients on the feasibility of projects.
  • Pre-application advice.
  • Preparing and submitting planning applications.
  • Responding to development proposals and plans.
  • Working alongside our EIA team to provide advice on the planning implications of EIA developments and reviewing EIA-Reports.

The role will also contribute to a range of policy and research projects.

Involved in all stages of project development from tendering through to completion, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of the work carried out, including project management and delivery, and assisting with the generation of new business.

We are looking for someone with the following experience:

  • detailed understanding of development planning, ideally in both the public and private sectors;
  • preparation of planning application reports / pre-application discussions and some experience dealing with local authority planning departments;
  • providing robust planning advice within a multi-disciplinary team.

Salary: to be discussed, dependent on experience and location.

We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for this role, including part-time working (minimum 30 hours per week), core hours and a degree of location flexibility.

About you:

You should hold a planning degree graduate or post-graduate, and hold full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

You should have experience of work relevant to the range of projects described above, and management experience is desirable.

We are looking for high calibre candidates with good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks and time, using initiative.  Also important for this role are excellent report writing and communication skills, the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues and clients, and an enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
